Voices of the Holocaust
| Welcome by IIT’s President | Introduction
of Illinois Institute of Technology’s Dr. David Pablo Boder &
his interviews with DPs in Europe |
| About the Project | Collection
rediscovered in 1998, work being done on site to post transcripts of
interviews, maps, essays & actual voices of survivors using audio
streaming technology; Boder’s approach in 1946 was to ‘point
out that little was known in America about what had happened in Europe”
and if DPs told their stories, their fates would be uncovered. 109 interviews
were done with 70 transcribed and translated. Also devised a trauma
index. |
| Gateway | This is the main page from which all other related work is accessed. |
| Interview Archive | Each
interview contains hyperlinks for notes, interview summaries, full translated
& transcribed text, a short profile, and some are already available
in Real Audio (although in original language). Site is still very much
under construction and changes often. |
| Profiles | Short
descriptions of interviewees to help direct your inquiry + demographic
breakdowns of interviewees |
| Featured Interview | Jack
Bass, AKA Juergren Brassfreund, is interviewed a second time in March
2001. I believe this is still under construction. |
| IIT Biographies | Bios of Dr. Boder, Marvin Camras, and listing of members of the project team |
| Other Resources | NPR
featured Boder’s work on “This American Life.” Once
Real Player starts, go into the broadcast till about 6:30 when the segment
starts. Other links include Cybrary of the Holocaust, the Holocaust
History Project, Voice Vision: Holocaust Survivor Oral History, Interdisciplinary
Approaches to Holocaust Video |
| Maps | This
part is still under construction as well, but the Interviewees are further
divided based on which camp is selected: 15 interviewees’ profiles
pop up when one clicks on Buchenwald, for example. |
